Questions to Ask a Realtor

Selling your home can be a big step. You want to be sure you’re trusting the right person to help you through the process. But how do you tell what makes a good real estate agent? What questions should you ask a realtor when determining if they’re the right fit for you? The National Association of Realtors has a quick list to get you started.

What experience do you have?

As in everything, extensive experience cannot guarantee equal skill. But it is still an important measurement. Experience is the best teacher, and most of real estate is learned on the job. When you are considering a realtor, ask how long they have been in real estate. The longer their history, the more experience they can bring to your own sale.

Another question to consider is whether or not real estate is the realtor’s full time job. Have they had other listings recently? How many homes did they and their brokerage sell in the past year? The more recent experience a realtor has, the better their knowledge is likely to be of the current market conditions in your area.

Decades of Experience and Extensive Connections

Lake & Mountain Realty has been a licensed real estate broker in New York since 1999. Our principle broker and founder, Patricia Meyers, serves on the Columbia-Greene Board of Realtors as a director and is a broker caravan director for the Columbia Greene Northern Dutchess County MLS. In the past, she has served as vice president of the Columbia-Greene Board of Realtors, as well as president of the Greene County MLS.

What Specializations Do You Have?

There are a variety of different specializations realties can pursue, whether through additional certifications or building on a specific type of experience. Whether you are looking for a quick sale, or are a senior, or military, or are looking to buy or sell a vacation home, you may find a realtor whose specialization can help you.

Local Knowledge

Lake & Mountain specializes in upstate New York and the Hudson Valley area. Whether looking to buy, sell, or rent a permanent or vacation home, our local real estate agents know the area and our dedicated to your needs. Our goal is to provide a personalized experience for you.

Can You Recommend Other Service Providers?

Selling or buying a home can involve many different services. Whether looking for a contractor to repair the driveway before a showing or an attorney to represent you at the closing, your realtor should be able to recommend a few options and disclose any special relationships they might have with any of these service providers.

A Local Network
